Decoding The Difference – Between Counselling & Coaching
Hello friends and readers,
Greetings from Khushnay!!
I feel exceptionally delighted to present to you my thoughts on the necessity of Life coaching through a comparative analysis on Counselling and Coaching, to be precise Life Coaching. As this is a query and a myth that I often come across, that coaching is nothing different from therapy-based counselling. Well, there is a tad bit of similarity between both, because both help you create a satisfying life. But the differences between both can be listed as-
THE APPROACH – The idea behind counselling is to focus on past traumas and issues to change self-destructive habits, repair and improve relationships and work through painful feelings. In this sense, counselling focuses on the past and on introspection and analysis, with the hope of resolving past issues and creating a happier, more stable future.
Whereas, in coaching a client works with a coach to clarify goals and identify obstacles and problematic behaviors in order to create action plans to achieve desired results. The main way that a life coach vs. counsellor works is that the life coach takes the client’s current starting point as an acceptable neutral ground and is more action-based from that point onward.
THE FUNCTION – Coaching helps you set and achieve goals, while counseling helps you recognize and solve your problems in life. Moreover, coaching focuses exclusively on the present and future, but counseling focuses mostly on the present and on the past. Coaching is a process where a coach supports a person to achieve a specific personal or professional goal by providing training and guidance, while counseling is a process where a counselor provides assistance and guidance to a person in resolving personal or psychological problems.
THE AREAS – Coaches are trained in supporting clients to progress in life in all aspects while counselors are trained in human development, family dynamics, sexuality and mental health conditions. A life coach enables the person receiving treatment to take control of their life and take action to steer it toward their goals
Though a sad reality of even the 21st century is the stigma that is attached to mental healthcare which hurdles many from approaching counsellors. But Life coaching has no such stigma attached. Rather the most successful of the personalities in all fields of excellence take help from professionals who coach them to visualize their future and set the right course of action. On that note friends, we look forward to being part of your journey and prosperity. Please feel free to reach out.
Warm Regards,
Khushnay
